This is how children of color are treated in schools, people, especially brown children. How will this child trust teachers actually care about her again? Huh? Tell me that.

The teacher tried to brush this shit off and say it was “just a joke.” Yeah… because humiliating a child in a classroom full of her peers is just fucking hilarious. I’m willing to put money on the fact that she’d never do this shit to a nice little white child.

I took a History of Education class in high school, and at one point the discussion came to horrible experiences with teachers/administration. We spent two (hour and a half) class periods sharing; all the kids with the worst horror stories were all people of color and their stories were mostly from elementary school. Probably not shocking to anybody who’s spent their life in a non-white body, but it was shocking to me.

These racist fucks literally have no idea how deep and long-lasting the effects of their actions towards young children are. Any white person seeking to become a teacher should be required to spend hours listening to young men and women of color talk about the kind of shit their teachers put them through.

Word. By high school my trust for teachers was dead and gone.

Hi unpopular opinion here. I found that award to be pretty damn funny. She had the most excuses for not having her homework done. If I were a teacher, I’d do the same regardless of race. I highly doubt race has ANYTHING to do with it. If this were a white kid. No one would be fired up. Like the white lady who got her ass beat in the McDonald’s line by two black people. No one gave a fuck. No media outcry of racism. People, stop playing the race card. I applaud this teacher for doing something. Honestly, I saw day in and day out in my high school the same person have a new excuse daily for not doing their homework. To the point teachers just quit asking. And they were of all races. She’s 8 her homework’s not that hard. Maybe if her mother got more involved. Sat down with her and made her do her homework and turn it in. This wouldn’t have happened. But no, parents just don’t give a shit. So their kids run amok all day. And when they get their vittles hurt finally, the parents attack. They never ask. HEY WHAT DID MY KID DO, TO GET TO THIS POINT? This was a simple joke. I don’t think anyone is looking at all side of this here. The girl didn’t do her work, and she made excuses for not doing it. She shouldn’t be given leeway for not doing what’s expected of her. When someone gets fired at their job, for not doing shit. No one goes oh you humiliated them by firing them. You horribly awful person. No, school is a child’s job. They’re to be there everyday for a set amount of hours. Do their work and try their best. She didn’t do her work and what was expected of her, she didn’t do her job as a student. Race has nothing to do with this.

Just my 2 cents anyways.

………What I want to know is why people are emphasizing “girl of color” in these comments. 8 | Because from what I saw, it was just a teacher poking fun of a student who had many excuses for not getting her homework done or turning it in. I saw nowhere in that news broadcast that “the teacher purposely went after the girl because of the color of her skin.” This was a simple joke the teacher did to bring to light to the student that she /needs/ to do her homework. I don’t believe she meant it in to be some huge gigantic big deal. Yes, to an 8 year old this is like some kind of horror story, but you know what? I bet that girl started doing her homework after this.

If find this all pretty ridiculous. Awards like this are just another way to get through to the child, if she refuses to do her homework, she has to be pushed/encouraged again some how. And it’s hardly to do with race, its just a child who refuses to do her homework, race has nothing to do with it. 

Another wonderful bullshit example of people blowing things out of proportion. I mean, really? Who gives a flying fuck if the girl was “colored” or not? Stop playing the fucking race card, people. The fact is, like stated previously, she did not do her homework. And the fact that she put more effort into making excuses, instead of doing the god damn work, which is probably a piece of cake, warrants such an award. Joke or not! In fact, I THINK THIS SHOULD HAPPEN MORE. Kids these days get away with murder. Parents need to start enforcing rules and making kids do what they are supposed to, like chores and homework. Not sit back and not give a damn until something like this happens. Monitor your kids, parents, and make sure they are actually doing what they NEED to do before blowing things like this out context. And whatever happened to detentions? When i was her age, if you didn’t do your work that frequently, your ass stayed an hour after school and made sure it got done. Just sayin.
